Progress in Erdheim-Chester Disease (ECD) doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s made possible through collaboration—among researchers, clinicians, and the patients and families who push forward despite the unknowns. At the center of this progress stands the Medical Advisory Board of the Erdheim-Chester Disease Global Alliance (ECDGA): a team of expert volunteers shaping how we understand, research, and care for this rare condition.
As we celebrate Volunteer Month, we recognize the outstanding professionals who dedicate their time, intellect, and compassion—not because they have to, but because they believe in what’s possible.
The ECDGA Medical Advisory Board is composed of physicians and researchers from around the world who specialize in fields critical to ECD—oncology, immunology, hematology, radiology, and beyond. These aren’t just consultants. They are volunteer leaders working side by side with ECDGA to inform strategy, elevate patient care, and support scientific progress.
They guide the development of educational materials, weigh in on promising therapies, advise on global registry initiatives, and help connect the ECDGA with international research networks. Their counsel ensures that every step the organization takes is grounded in accurate, up-to-date science.

Their work isn’t theoretical—it’s deeply connected to real lives. Every time a patient receives an earlier diagnosis, a physician finds new data, or a caregiver feels more informed, it’s often thanks to the groundwork laid by these advisors.
Many members also participate in our annual Medical Symposium, where they share the latest research and engage directly with the ECD community. This year, they’ll take the stage again at our much-anticipated gathering in Barcelona this May, offering an unmatched opportunity for learning and connection.
For many attendees, it’s a rare chance to hear directly from the people shaping the field of ECD—and for our advisors, it’s a chance to hear firsthand from those living the journey every day.
What makes this board extraordinary isn’t just their credentials. It’s their empathy. They understand that behind every study or trial is a family seeking answers, a patient navigating uncertainty, a community counting on better options.
These advisors volunteer not just to expand medical knowledge—but to help improve lives. They challenge assumptions, champion innovation, and push for progress because they know that patients with rare diseases like ECD can’t afford to wait.
In research and medicine, progress often moves at a slow and methodical pace. But thanks to the guidance of our Medical Advisory Board, ECDGA is moving faster and smarter—identifying gaps, prioritizing needs, and building a future where patients and providers are equipped with stronger tools.
Their work behind the scenes supports nearly every major initiative ECDGA undertakes. And though their names may not always be in the spotlight, their impact echoes in every story of resilience, every data point collected, and every treatment conversation sparked.
This Volunteer Month, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Medical Advisory Board. You represent the highest ideals of service—offering not just your expertise, but your hope.
As we look ahead to Barcelona, your role becomes even more meaningful. You’re not just advancing the science of ECD—you’re helping build the bridges that will carry our community into the future.
